Joshua Thomas McDaniels was born on April 22, 1976, in Canton, Ohio, U.S. He attended Canton McKinley High School in Canton, Ohio, and played high school football as a quarterback.
Playing Career
Josh McDaniels joined John Carroll University in 1995 and played college football for the Blue Streaks from 1995-1998.
Though McDaniels was a quarterback in high school, he lost out on the position at John Carroll to Nick Caserio, who joined the New England Patriots staff in 2001 (the same year as McDaniels).
Coaching Career
McDaniels was hired by the New England Patriots as a Personnel assistant in 2001. He served as a defensive coaching assistant for the team from 2002-2003.
In 2004, McDaniels became the team’s quarterbacks coach. In McDaniels’s first four seasons with the team, the Patriots won three Super Bowls: Super Bowl XXXVI, Super Bowl XXXVIII, and Super Bowl XXXIX.
On January 11, 2009, the Denver Broncos named Josh McDaniels their head coach, replacing Mike Shanahan. On January 18, 2011, McDaniels was hired by the St. Louis Rams as their offensive coordinator under head coach Steve Spagnuolo.
In the 2012 season, McDaniels agreed to become the offensive assistant coach of the New England Patriots. He won the Super Bowl 6 times in his career (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLIX, LI, LIII).
On January 31, 2022, Josh McDaniels was hired by the Las Vegas Raiders as their head coach.
