How Many Draft Picks Do the Lions Have in the 2024 NFL Draft?
The Lions currently have seven total picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Most of the Lions’ picks are their original selections, but there was a shakeup in Rounds 3-4 that occurred with the trade of tight end T.J. Hockenson to the Minnesota Vikings.

Midway through the 2022 season, the Lions dealt their Pro Bowl TE to the Vikings in an intra-divisional trade that netted the Lions a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
In that same trade, the Lions sent back a 2023 fourth-round pick and a conditional 2024 selection. Since the Vikings did not win a playoff game in 2023, thus failing to fulfill the condition, the Lions sent their 2024 fourth-rounder to Minnesota as opposed to their fifth-rounder.
With the dust settled, the Lions have seven picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. They have their original selection in Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Round 5, Round 6, and Round 7.
In Round 3, the Lions have an extra pick granted to them by the Hockenson trade, but they also lost their original 2024 fourth-rounder in that same deal.
Who Did the Lions Draft in 2023?
The Lions ended up with eight picks in the 2023 NFL Draft — three of which came through the Jared Goff-Matthew Stafford trade with the Los Angeles Rams.
From that trade, the Lions wound up adding an extra first-round pick, second-round pick, and third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
From that 2023 NFL Draft class, the Lions already added several difference-makers on both sides of the ball.
In Round 1, the Lions added running back Jahmyr Gibbs and linebacker Jack Campbell. In Round 2, they added tight end Sam LaPorta and defensive back Brian Branch. And in Round 3, they acquired quarterback Hendon Hooker and nose tackle Brodric Martin.
Detroit only had two selections on Day 3, but they spent them well. The first, in Round 5, was used on a quality traits-rich backup offensive lineman in Colby Sorsdal. The second was spent on a high-upside size-speed athlete at WR in Antoine Green.
Gibbs, Campbell, LaPorta, and Branch have all already taken on major roles for Detroit. LaPorta has blossomed into one of the most versatile TEs across the league in Ben Johnson’s offense, and Gibbs has flashed his dynamic potential in spurts.
In Round 2, Branch could go on to be one of the biggest steals of the 2023 NFL Draft. As of this writing, he has a pick, four pass breakups, and four tackles for loss in five games, and he’s shown his potential as a game-changing nickel defender.
